Sweeps Week 2007 T-Shirt Says It All

Jim models this year's Sweeps Week T-Shirt. We think this one says it all.

Tidy Friday!

The wood has been has been split and stacked, the bricks have been bundled, the storage has been organized and the dumpster surround is almost complete.

Hot Dog!

Brats & Burgers

Carnivores and herbivores alike had brats and burgers (with all the fixin's) for lunch on Friday thanks to Renée's skills in the kitchen

Hanging The Doors

Jim and Thomas work on the surround doors as Jordan supervises.

Progress Continues

Jim, Tim and Ron continue making progress on the dumpster surround.

Interior Repairs Made

Thomas Rhines of All-Chimney Cleaning & Maintenance in Charlotte, MI shows off his handiwork before everything goes back in.

Is This a Yard Sale?

Nah... It is most of what was in one of the Tech Center's storage buildings. Everything was taken out, sorted through and organized.

Rockin' the Landscaping

Rocky spent Thursday afternoon freshening up the landscaping around the Tech Center.

Italian Day!

Alline Eldridge and Renée Brigman put together the Italian lunchtime feast for Thursdays volunteers. Alline brought in fresh basil from her garden to complement the fresh mozarella, fresh pasta and homemade sauces and meats provided by the Pilgers.

How Much Wood Would a Chimney Sweep...

Thursday morning's delivery of firewood was quick work when Jordan Williams, Thomas Rhines, Caryl Ann and Ken Hoelscher and Ron Moser teamed together on the project.

Birdseye View of Thursday

Dumpster Surround Progress

Ron Brigman, Jim Baynes, Tim Smith and Kevin DeLucenay plan to take the next step on the dumpster surround project as Ken Hoelscher checks out their handiwork.

Behlold the Power of Sweeps Week

Flashing Fixed in a Flash

Jim Pritchett and Ron Moser of Certified Sweeps stopped by with their lift to check on the Twisted Chimney's flashing.

Wednesdays with Weenie

Rocky DeLucenay arrived Wednesday afternoon with Weenie/Wenis/Neener Neerer Weiner... Kevin and Rocky's dog will answer to any of these names, but she's never too far from Rocky's side.

Viva la Long Island!

A whole lotta Italian food was delivered via UPS on Wednesday courtesy of John and Diane Pilger in New York. Check out the complete list of goodies here. We might have to roll people out of the Tech Center before the end of the week!

Keep it Moving!

All hands were on deck to move the gates inside.

Meanwhile, back in the kitchen... Renée and Caryl Ann didn't say a word... :)

The Gate Arrives

After months of design and planning, the gates are delivered! Ron and Renée Brigman arrived with the gates for the dumpster surround Tuesday evening after an adventurous drive from South Carolina.

The gates were built by Renée's sister and brother-in-law with this project in mind. Once the group saw the finished product, they quickly determined that they were much too grand for a dumpster surround. Driveway measurements were taken, deliberations were held... Consensus: Store the gates until the Town of Plainfield approves their placement as a Sweeps Week 2008 project. The iron gates weigh approx. 350 each and were provided to Sweeps Week at not even a 1/4 of what they'd go for normally! Now, where to put them...

Making Change

The pocket change Jim Baynes mentioned in his July Newslink letter to Region 3 weighed in at 6lbs for a $47.39 donation to Sweeps Week projects.

The Three Musketeers

Or, based on the uncontrollable laughter heard at lunch, maybe this post should be titled "The Three Amigos". Kevin DeLucenay, Jim Baynes and Marion Schroll got Sweeps Week 2007 off to a rolling start this morning. (We'll let Kevin fill you in on the details of today's progress.)

Marion, our chef out of Manhattan (Kansas), arrived early to line the shelves (and kitchen table) with the needed ingredients to keep everyone fed and happy. He's made sure that these guys are getting three square meals to keep them going. Thanks, Marion!

While not the most "sexy" project to work on, the dumpster surround was in dire need of maintenance and the project is going to be highly appreciated. The old surround had a solidly built foundation, but was "well-weathered" and ready for a facelift.

Kevin and Jim were serious when they said they were donating "sweat equity". With highs in the 90s today, they had their work cut out for them. Pulling out the posts was definitely a two-person job! Kevin and Jim were up to the task. And they kept going...

and going...

Until the three musketeers called it a day!

If you have a little time on your hands this week and are in the area, consider dropping by the Tech Center to lend a helping hand. You'll be well-fed, make some new friends and are guaranteed to hear some tall tales from some of the finest storytellers in the industry.
